So that the Republicans have successfully put the kibosh on the medical care plan. Not that they do not have any ideas of their own ; whatever medical care plan comes to pass, it is certain to have a lot of Republican inputs to it. One of their critical ideas in the entire cock up, is the assumption American citizens might be able to buy reasonable medical insurance across states. At the moment, the circumstances are you can only buy insurance from an operator who is registered in your own state. In fact that’s an especially important piece of Republican sentiment in the problem. The Left wingers are essentially taking the Republicans up on this idea, and you can totally expect that whatever medicare bill passes, this should be part of it.
In fact you heard lots of this when Senator McCain was stumping for his government in 2008. Everybody now feels that turning the whole country into the single health insurance market, will only make things more competitive for the insurance corporations, and bring costs down. If you live in Colorado, and you all of a sudden find a little medical insurance company in Pennsylvania is making an offer that your local firms just can’t match. You might simply buy across state lines. And they have got a point. If your state legislature has no control of almost all of the insurance suppliers in your state, the govt. just can’t exercise of its patron protection laws any more. The firms will just say, “Oh!, We are from outside the state, so nice try”.
In actual fact actually folk could finish up paying dearer premiums. Reasonable medical insurance really looks much more dickey under this plan, not to mention more pricey.
So how would this basically work? The states must form new guidelines of the proper way to control firms operating there from outside. They’ll simply have to bring out new laws to that end.
And they would also must license their own insurance firms, to deal outside the state. Or, the Fed office that rules the health-care issues of Fed. workers, could cope with out-of-state insurers. In reality the government could apply a single law to each one of them, and proscribes them from offering anything less than a high level of care.
