Currently, health insurance coverage has become a serious problem for a lot of Americans. The idea of universal health coverage has been a subject of great importance for many years now, but so far, we have not seen any action. The socialist label is nothing but a red herring. Even when the financial system was still healthy, the high cost of health insurance coverage prohibited several people from obtaining health insurance. In both Canada and Mexico, the equal medications sell for a fraction of the price we must pay here at home. Why? It was simply not reasonable. Formerly people covered under an employee sponsored plan, now laid off, have no earnings and no health insurance as well.
It is time for the talk to become productive and get something done for a change. There are more and more reports that disclose that there are huge numbers of such people, lots of elderly, who are simply not capable to purchase their medicines. So frequently, politicians who resist the plan of universal health coverage try to reduce their position by labeling it with, ‘That is a socialist concept. This is a democracy!’ As if that basis suffices to close the argument. Actually, we are a republic. They go without. Who knows what the consequences have been? I have not seen any statistics on this. While socialistic countries offer every citizen with health insurance coverage, at no cost, so do countries like France, Norway and Britain. It does not take a mastermind to see that, when severe health conditions go untreated, because of a need of health insurance coverage, the condition only worsens.
Certainly you remember the news reports describing bus loads of elderly people crossing the borders to Canada and Mexico to buy the medications they needed, but could not pay for to fill at a U.S. pharmacy. We know that there are sufficient models of universal health insurance coverage available, ones that work well and advantage the whole society. I know one man who, not capable to afford health insurance coverage, ended up having a heart attack. It is difficult to recognize why our country can not do the same. Definitely, we reimburse sufficient in taxes to cover such a program. When our government can hand out hundreds of billions of dollars to save huge corporations, while allowing its own citizens to have their health compromised, or to even die, as a result of incapability to get life saving prescriptions, there is certainly something wrong with such values.
Numerous people with sober health conditions, such as heart disease, must take medications that assist keep them alive. His hospital bill came to $30,000. He’ll spend the rest of his life paying it off. Perhaps it’s time for every individual to write their Congress and Senate members, the Surgeon General and the President. A universal health insurance coverage program would have allowed him access to a doctor and the man might have avoided this terrible result. Their offices receiving a flood of mail might give them pause. We can only hope.
