Promoting Your Web Site or Internet Business – Basics of Ranking Well Organically

So far we have investigated the importance of internet marketing and search engine optimisation in order to succeed in your website being listed on Google, particularly with regards to being listed organically or naturally rather than with paid sponsored links.

This article will begin to explore two of the principal approaches to achieving a good natural SERP and ensuring that you understand the importance of knowing what words your customers will use to search for you.

People often ask what is the difference between internet marketing and SEO (search engine optimisation), as they often confuse these as being one of the same. Both are very different, equally crucial to achieving a good SERP and require on going attention.

I will start with SEO, as there is not much point in commencing on internet marketing if you have not got this bit right. SEO is concerned with what is regarded as ‘on site’ techniques and internet marketing is an ‘off site’ method.

So, SEO is all about making sure things are done to your site to secure that it is as user friendly to google as possible. For example, you want to make sure google can find your site and read its content. It is no good having a site that google can not decipher and a good webmaster should know the basics of SEO and be able to guide you to what needs doing. However, you will be surprised at how many web designers there are that do not know some of the basics. Therefore, when looking for a web designer you need to be asking them what SEO strategies they use.

However, before you start optimising your website for search engines, it is necessary to know the keywords you want visitors to find you for on Google, as this underpins and will inform much of your SEO and internet marketing. I will explain in my next article all about keywords and how to find the keywords that are right for you.

Having ensured your site is optimised for search engines (google) you will then want to [spion]begin|start|commence|initiate|kickoff[/spin] your internet marketing strategy, which will also revolve around the keywords that you want to be found for.

Internet marketing is interested with everything that is ‘off site’ activity. However, it is not entirely to do with promoting a website, as it is concerned with any off site activity on the internet that is intended to increase conversions and can include banner advertisement, email marketing, media campaigns, viral marketing, web 2.0 social media marketing and any other creative online marketing in tended to promote your product or service.

However, there are set areas of internet marketing that are commonly regarded as being hugely beneficial in securing high natural and organic SERP’s on google, which I will cover later. Before this, it is important to first explore, in my next article, the importance of good keyword research.
